It covers a total area of 34 km2. The flat landscape is interrupted by hills, until reaching the flatland again on the upland of Sos Pianos, in the eastern section. Here we find the most elevated heights, Monte Rosso (Mount Red) at 236 metres above sea level of and Pischina Manna uplands at 238 metres above sea level. These positions overlook great parts of the Nurra territory, the Gulf of Asinara and Fertilia. Besides the traditional economic activities linked to animal breeding and farming, Olmedo is an important mining centre; in fact, a bauxite mine is located in the town \u2013 the only active one in Sardinia.
